Case Study: Liz Leary
Liz Leary is an employee experience leader who loves organizing retreats, offsites and other large company-wide events. She’s passionate about event planning that’s thoughtful and inclusive. In the last two years, her eyes have been opened to the possibilities of remote work, and through that, what she wants to do with her life and career. She’s now planning to launch a blog to teach other employee experience leaders what she has learned about the best practices to create a remote work culture.
Liz’s Mood Board
While creating her mood board, Liz realized she wanted to convey the entire arc of event planning, ending with the joy and pride of executing a successful event. She wanted her photos to be professional, but look human and real. She’s not interested in being the all-knowing expert, but someone who’s honest and vulnerable about what they’ve learned.
Some photos from Liz’s session
We met up in a gorgeous rented apartment in Bushwick. Liz had brought a TON of props and items that she uses during her event planning process: laptop, phone, oculus, journal, label maker. From the first steps of brainstorming, to the deep focus of planning, the frantic energy of putting it together, and finally the relaxed joy and pride of an event well done, she embodied each stage of her process to let me capture them. At the end, we went out to catch a few shots in the beautiful golden hour against graffiti on nearby walls in the neighborhood.
What Liz says …
“I wanted photos that look professional but also convey the human side of me. I want my new brand to be real. When I saw Raj’s portfolio, it was clear that was something he aims to achieve as well.
I loved Raj’s process from start to finish. The mood board helped me focus and isolate the exact feelings and story I wanted to achieve. On the day of the shoot, I was nervous at first, but Raj immediately put me at ease with his calm, creative presence and great energy. The day went by really fast! I felt like I was deeply involved in the process and not just along for the ride.
When I saw my photos for the first time, I felt POWERFUL. “Damn, I’m badass!”. That feeling continues every time I look at them, and that renewed confidence alone makes this experience worth it. If you want to feel good about yourself, get to know yourself a little better and feel confident before going on a new adventure in life, I’d 1000% recommend working with Raj!”
